JANUARY 2006 HOMELESS COUNT TOTALS FOR GUILFORD COUNTY (OFFICIAL COUNT)

HUD Count: Total = 1108
Individuals counted on Jan. 25, 2006 fitting the McKinney-Vento definition of homelessness who were counted using HUD’s accepted methodology for the Point in Time Count. These individuals and families were counted at shelters and transitional facilities for the homeless, and in outside locations where they were residing. Increase of 36% from 2005 HUD Count total of 812.

School Count: Total = 839
Number of homeless students reported by the Guilford County School system on Jan. 25, 2006. School count total is not included in HUD count total. In 2005, the schools reported 440 homeless children and 335 homeless related adults in their families. The 2006 number includes only students.

Community/Non-HUD Count: Total = 90 (incomplete as of 02/09/06)
Individuals who were interviewed at locations not fitting HUD’s methodology for the Point in Time Count (soup kitchen, community dinner, transient hotels, etc.) who reported to us that they were homeless, not staying in a shelter or transitional facility, and that they had not been counted or interviewed by anyone else on that day. Community/Non-HUD count total is not included in HUD count total. The 2005 community/non-HUD count was 353.
